Volkswagen Group Malaysia today unveiled its fourth locally-assembled (CKD) model to the Malaysian market, following the previous debuts of the Passat, Polo Sedan and Polo 1.6. Here then, is the 2014 CKD Volkswagen Jetta, priced from RM130,888, excluding insurance.
Key Specs:
- Price: RM130,888, excluding insurance
- Engine: 1.4-litre TSI twin-charged four-cylinder petrol
- Transmission: Seven-speed dual-clutch DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox)
- Horsepower: 158hp @5,800rpm
- Torque: 250Nm @ 1,500 – 4,500rpm
- Performance: 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds
- Fuel consumption: 6.0-litre/100km
EXTERIOR: On the outside, most of the CKD Jetta directly resembles its CBU counterpart, enlisting 16-inch ‘Navarra’ alloy wheels, chrome grille, front and rear fog lamps, and twin exhaust tailpipes. The halogen headlamps are equippped with ‘Leaving Home’ and manual ‘Coming Home’ functions, which either swith on various interior and exterior lights around the car as you unlock it to enter, or remain switched on after you’ve locked it and walk away from the car.
SAFETY: Then you have the car’s maintained safety features, which are a full suite of six airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ABS with Brake Assist, hill-start assist and a Park Distance Control system for the front and rear of the car. There is also electrically adjustable exterior mirrors which swing downwards when a driver select reverse gear, just to provide a better view of what’s alongside the car. ISOFIX child-seat anchors are also standard.
SPACIOUSNESS: Something new Volkswagen Malaysia is keen to highlight is the Jetta’s 510-litre boot space. This isn’t an increase over the CBU unit, but the German carmaker is keen to demonstrate the Jetta’s class-leading qualities in the local arena. For example, Japanese and Korean segment alternatives have between 470 and 420 litres (Altis, Civic, Cerato, Elantra), with only the 2012 Nissan Sylphy getting close enough with 504 litres.
The 2014 CKD Jetta is available in four colour choices: Candy White, Platinum Grey, Reflex Silver and Deep Black.
